The mind is a powerful thing. And with the busyness of life it's easy for many of us to lose focus. And without clarity in this journey of life, road blocks are built to keep us from who we are created to be. Our days are filled with day to day task and we even have those days where everything seems to be going wrong all at once. We just can't seem to think clearly. When life gets blurry here are some way to help you adjust your focus:
Get Enough Sleep
One of the first things I look at when life seems so out of focus is am I getting enough sleep. Sleep is such an important part in keeping the mind healthy. This is because sleep helps to restore the brain from the day to day wear and tear. Proper sleep is responsible for proper brain function such as, memory and cognition. Studies have also shown that there is a drainage system in your brain called, glymphatic system which is most active when we sleep. This system helps to clear out and recycle toxins in the brain. So it’s no wonder there is no mental clarity without proper sleep. You want better mental clarity? Be sure you are getting the proper amount of sleep, at least 7-9 hours for adults.
Eat Right to Feel Right
Eating right is another huge one for mental clarity. We need proper nutrients to feed our brain. If all we ate was foods filed with toxins how can our brains function properly and how can we focus, let alone focus when our days are our packed with so much to do. I feel I am not myself and have little to no energy when I don’t eat the right nutrients my body needs. I know many who can relate. When we fill our bodies with nutrients such as, omega-3s and zinc, it increases connections between brain cells. Omega-3 is responsible for improving thinking and memory. It may also be linked to improving our mood. While Zinc is responsible for helping our body respond to stress. Being low on Zinc can also cause depression. In fact, being low on other nutrients such as B12 and iron have also been known to be linked to depression. Having learned this has shown the importance of what a proper nutritious diet can do for one’s mental health and helping us to be able to focus, especially during difficult times.
Exercise to Build Energy
Finding some time to exercise is important, not just for physical health but for mental health too. Exercise makes a difference as it increases energy. Seriously, there are just so many benefits and reasons why it is important. This goes hand in hand with proper nutrition. Exercising regularly not only helps increase energy but it also helps improve sleep and remember how important we mentioned sleep is. Exercise will help with proper sleep, which would reduce tiredness, increasing mental alertness.
Find Some you Time to Just Think
I know this is not easy for many of us, but it is so important to have time to just think. Without anytime to just think it makes it hard to focus on anything. Having some time for ourselves to just relax and think gives us the opportunity to refocus our minds on the positives and not feeling cluttered by all our day to day task of life. Life is just too busy and we sometimes need that time to slow down and process everything that is happening. So go out and sit in a coffee shop you love, or relax at home in your favorite cozy spot with no interruption. Just some you time to think, getting in touch with who you are and who you were created to be. An hour a day at least 3-5 times week is a great start.
Refocus your Energy
Refocus your energy on areas that is most important in your life. What do you value in life? Kind of like going back to the basic to remind you of what is most important. For me it is time with my family and time reading God's word. Those are the things that I find helps when my days seem rough I can put all other things aside and just put my energy into these two things before getting back into the work at hand.
Don't let the busyness of life blur your vision. Take care of yourself mentally because that is just as important as your physical health.
So what about you? What helps you stay focused on those busy days?
