Once upon of time I was pregnant with my first daughter (2nd pregnancy). I thought I knew all to expect since I was pregnant before but didn’t realize how different pregnancies can be. This time I had longer morning sickness that lasted well beyond the first trimester and I had many different aches and pains that made it difficult to even get out of bed. After 4 pregnancies, many aches and pains I finally put together this list of must-haves which could have been useful from even my first pregnancy.
I remember as if it were yesterday. Getting up to make my usual rounds to the bathroom when “Oh, OUCH! Did I pull something? Oh darn I can’t move, It’s too darn painful”. Yep that’s pain, tingling and sometimes numbness in my hips, thighs, buttock and lower back. Felt like someone was pinching the insides of my hips and thighs while kicking my lower back and twisting it. Seriously, this was such an awful feeling bringing me to tears and my pain tolerance is pretty good. Found out what I was feeling was sciatica do to my enlarged uterus pressing down on my sciatic nerve. Common in pregnancy. After much research I came across the body pillow. How I loved the body pillow. Made sleeping so much more comfortable and No more morning pain!!! Yep, definitely a pregnancy must have ?
Pregnancy Belly Band
Sometimes it just hurts too much to walk. As my uterus grew and I was in my third trimester these pains were no longer only subjected to when I woke up in the morning. They started to creep their way in during the day. As if my waddling everywhere I went wasn’t enough. It took me all the way to Baby #4 to realize the magic of a pregnancy belly band!! This made such a different as it eased the pressure off my lower back. It also helped with soothing any stretching skin irritation that I felt as my belly grew to accommodate my growing uterus. Two thumbs up for the pregnancy belly band ????
Don’t forget the mints!
Oh those heart burns. Darn you pregnancy hormones…And ugh Uterus do you really need to cause this annoying burning sensation called heartburn to make room for my precious baby? I mean Ouch! It really is irritating. Good thing for mints, in particular peppermint. I caught on to this by baby #3. Peppermint also helps for nausea. You can drink Peppermint Tea with honey or try a peppermint with no added sugar. Instant relief ?
Ok, Ok sleeping was painful, Walking was painful and now sitting!!! What’s up with that? Oh yeah Sciatica again. I’m on to you!!! Here goes some more learning by baby #4. The much better feeling of sitting on a yoga ball as appose to a chair or couch. Wow what a different this made. It is also good for baby’s position during the last trimester as it helps to stabilize the pelvis. The ball would need to be the proper size for height, so that when sitting, the hips are higher than the knees. This is also a great way to strengthen those core muscles ??
Chiropractic care specializing in the Webster Technique
Another little pregnancy gem is having a Chiropractor who specializes in the Webster Technique. This helps keep the pelvis aligned throughout the many changes that occur during pregnancy. This will help create more room for the baby and will help baby get or stay in a more favorable position. Chiropractic care also helps with those sciatic nerve pain as proper alignment helps to take the pressure off the nerves. Helped me tremendously when pregnant with baby number 3 and 4 ????
Ok this one may not be associated with instant help from any aches or pains but having a pregnancy journal is helpful for a couple of reasons. For one, you can jot down all those aches and discomfort as well as any concerns you may have, so on your next prenatal appointment you can discuss with your Midwife or OBGYN. Also, all those cute things that occur during pregnancy that you want to cherish like the first time you heard your baby’s heartbeat, the first time you felt your precious baby move and even your pregnancy cravings and how you felt during all those moments you can jot them all down for keep sake. These are also great to share with your little one when they are older along with some month to month photos ❤️
There it goes…My 6 pregnancy must-haves. Do you have anything else you would add to this list? Share below:
